I Learned Somthing New

I recently made a trade for a very nice DaveG thumbhole stock for a HW77. The stock is a beautiful red and gray green laminate. I had some errands to run after I got home from work but I had time to get it out of the box and take a look at it. I was very happy with it.

After I got home later that evening to mount one of my HW97 actions into the stock and suddenly realized that the rear mounting hole right in front of the trigger guard wasn't drilled out to accept the mounting lug on the HW97 action. This perplexed me, I know that the gentleman the I got it from said it was for his HW77 yet it wasn't going to my action, the hole was only big enough for the mounting screw to pass through.

I put a call into DaveG the next day and asked him about it. I described the stock to him and told him where I had got it and believe it or not he remembered the stock. I thought for sure it was for some other action but what I found out was enlightening for me. The stock was made for a very early version of the HW77 which didn't have the rear mounting lug, the screw went through the stock and screwed directly into the action. I found out from David Slade of Airgunwerks that the MkI versions of he HW77 didn't have the lug but the new versions do. I found that very interesting.

After talking with DaveG, he told me that he could retrofit the stock so that it will fit my HW97 so I will probably send it off to him to have it fixed. I thought about just reselling it to someone who has a vintage HW77, if there is anyone out there that might like to buy this stock for an old favorite HW77, let me know at brad@airguns.net, otherwise I will probably send it off to Dave and have it fixed up. I am still very happy with my trade and my new stock!
