Trigger Happy
It has been very cold here the past week, well, it was cold for Huntsville. It doesn't get down into the 'teens very often and usually it isn't until January. Today the temperature was up into the 50's and I broke out the Walter LGR for a little plinkin'. I haven't had a chance to shoot it outside since I adjusted the trigger last week. I was really interested to see how much better it would be. I wasn't dissappointed!
Most of my targets were made or bought for shooting at 50 yards and are just too big for 25 yards. I bought some cheap aspirin a couple weeks ago and decided to give them a try with the Walther. I used a bit of rubber cement to glue a bunch of them to a piece of plywood. I set up some of my other targets to shoot at as well. After a bit of sighting in my scope, I turned my attention to my aspirin. Oh my aching head! The rubber cement didn't hold them onto the plywood too well. Most of them fell off and only about a half dozen still remained. They didn't last long, the Walther made short work of them. Six shots, no more aspirin.
I gathered up the remaining aspirins that had fallen to earth and put them on my target holder. Some were able to be stood up but since the other six were pretty easy, I set about half of them down on there sides. That presented a target about 1/8th of an inch high by 3/8ths wide. Even with the smaller target, they presented very small challenge. I missed one or two shots out of the many shots taken. The trigger was just incredible, I would take a breath, pull up the 1st stage slack, and the trigger would just break as though by thinking about it. I stood up to take a few shots standing at some of the bigger targets. I pulled right through the second stage on my first shot but after that, the 1" angle iron targets went down one by one. The Walther is just a joy to shoot, after the trigger breaks I could just watch the pellet go down range and hit the target. It was a thing of beauty! I am not sure if there is a better rifle for backyard target shooting than the Walther LGR.
