Airgun Videotaping
Today I was taking some video of a target that I am developing. I took several shots in my garage with a digital camera and a video camera. Then I decided to take some shots through the scope on my PCP rifle. I have seen a lot of videos like this on YouTube so I thought that it shouldn't be any problem for me to take a couple of quick videos of my rifle hitting the new target. Well, like many things in life, it was easier said than done.
After setting up the rifle on a bench, I adjusted the rifle vise to get the crosshairs on the target. Then it was just a matter of putting the video camera behind the scope and taking some video. However, what I found out is that getting the orientation and positioning of the video is pretty difficult with a high magnification scope. There is a very small position that the video camera can be set at in order to get a good image. I held the camera by hand which compounded the problem since any little movement caused darkening in the image. I managed to get some decent video but it was as high quality as I would have liked.
I can see that in the future if I want to record video through my high magnification scopes I will need to make some type of fixture on which I can set the camera and make adjustments to line up the image.
